Anything in excess is not good! Be it the loved "FIBER".

Fiber!! Name only tells that it is about "weight loss and Fad diets" and public is totally going Ga Ga about it.

But we get to see so many patients (leading healthy lifestyle but still) having so many complaints, despite of having good amount of Fiber and balanced diet.

Let's have a look about this star performer in food section :)

What Is Fiber ?

Fiber is a plant based, carbohydrate, available in main two forms, one is Soluble and one is insoluble.

Fiber can't be broken down from the system and it passes through body undigested.

It Keeps our gut or digestive tract healthy and clean from toxins!.

Insoluble fiber, ex: green beans and dark leafy vegetables, carrots, beets, radish, skins of vegetables and fruits).

Soluble Fiber, ex : oats, sprouts, beans, peas, apples, oranges, nuts, flax and other seeds

Basic Sources Of Fiber:

* Fruits,

*Vegetables,

*Nuts and Seeds,

*Grains.

*Legumes.

Benefits Of Fiber:

* Helps in Weight Loss.

* Helps in Digestive Disorders.

* Its a Natural Detox.

* Maintaining normal blood sugar levels.

* Healthy skin.

Now, what happens when you eat Fiber in excess?

Eating too much fiber can cause,

* Gas.

* Bloating .

* Diarrhoea

* Stomach Pain.

* Constipation.

* Reduced sugar levels.

* Intestinal blockage in Crohn's Disease patients

How much is too much?

The daily requirement of fiber is from 25-35 gms. So it is quite less.

SO DO NOT GO FOR DIETS WHICH SAY "EAT ONLY SALAD/FRUITS FOR YOUR DINNER or any one meal"

That can cause other health issues.

So, the take home message is, eat in moderation, have a proper and balanced meal.

And don't ever go for fad diets which will help you to loose weight, but will give you other free health issues when you start following that!
